Natarajan Chandrasekaran took over as chief executive of Tata Consultancy Services on Tuesday, vowing to boost the global market share of India’s largest outsourcing company.

“We’re going to focus on growth,” he said.

Under the 13-year leadership of his predecessor, Subramaniam Ramadorai — who stepped down at the mandatory retirement age of 65 and will serve as a nonexecutive vice chairman and member of the board — the company’s revenues grew from about $150 million a year to nearly $6 billion.

“The $6 billion is only a 1 percent share” of total information technology services spending, Chandrasekaran said. “There’s a lot of headroom for growth.”

Globally, TCS says it is the eighth-largest software services company by revenue.

In addition to pursuing strategic acquisitions, especially in Europe and Japan, Chandrasekaran said the company would focus on organic growth, pursuing larger deals as the IT industry consolidates, and turning more to emerging markets like India.

TCS profits have continued to grow, albeit at a slower pace, through the global economic crisis.

After growing 32 percent in the year ending March 31, 2008, net profit rose only 1.17 percent in the July to September 2008 quarter from a year earlier, but recovered to 22.3 percent growth in the quarter ending June 30, 2009.

Chandrasekaran said outsourcing firms like TCS can help companies run more efficiently and cut costs at a time of rising cost pressures.

“Our business model is also a solution to the economic problems the world is facing,” he said.

Chandrasekaran said there is “huge organic growth potential” in software services because of the legacy of two decades of messy globalization that often left multinational banks and manufacturers with multiple, inefficient information technology systems.

In recent years, TCS has focused on expanding its global footprint, with centers in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and the United States. About 11,000 of the company’s 140,000 employees are non-Indian workers hired overseas.

Chandrasekaran said the company would continue to hire local workers, especially for sales and management positions, and is now recruiting 250 additional employees in Cincinnati, Ohio, to work on government and health care projects.

He said clients in the U.S. seem to be recovering faster than those in Europe, with financial services firms leading the way and manufacturers and telecommunications companies lagging.

“It’s a slow recovery,” Chandrasekaran said. “But definitely the recovery is happening.”

Before his appointment, Chandrasekaran was the company’s chief operating officer and executive director. He has worked at TCS since 1987.

The U.S. space agency is dealing with money crisis in this economic slowdown and therefore, NASA is planning to outsource its additional tasks to the contractors. Though nothing has been officially decided by the US president, but several government officials claims that many of the NASA backed missions might be carried out by the private sectors.

All the space shuttle launches are presently made by the government expenses but the current situations has resulted into cost constraints and therefore, several anticipated missions might be withheld. At the same time, outsourcing the work to private sector will enable the government to save between $30 billion to $50 billion.

Dr. Sally Ride said that NASA “just can’t get there,” when talking about the plan to go back to the moon. NASA has an outline plan to return to the moon by 2025 but enough funds are not available.

The funds available right now are generally used up for the International Space Station. However, the decision regarding appointing the contractors will remain in confusion unless the president makes up his mind.

Twitter has gained much popularity these days and has become a hub for all the people of the world to meet, stay in touch, and establish business. But with popularity comes additional responsibility and security of interaction issues. Twitter has been accused for spreading the malware links merely because it uses URL shortening services.

On the other hand, it was vital for twitter to use URL shortening services as it had to provide a mechanism to the user for squeezing as much information possible in 140 characters. This posed doubts regarding security and also allowed many malware links.

However, twitter has off late begun with blocking the tweets that contain the URL to malware distributing website. any tweet that possess any kind of malware in its link is blocked successfully on Twitter hence, making it a much more secured platform for staying touch with all the people without any troubles.

General Electric is one of the most well known companies and recently it claims of an achievement that is ground breaking in the field of technology. GE has come up with CD’s that have digital storage which will be equivalent to 100 DVDs. However, the product is still under making but has been a laboratory success so far. The company is meanwhile striving hard to produce the disc at lower cost so that they can be used by commercial world, the company is also working at it process of production so that it can be produced in mass communication.

This technological advancement is through the holographic storage. Holography is basically an optical process that has got immense storage capacity including the three dimensional images as well as digital data. It is the same technology that is used int eh DVDs. Blu-ray technology is the new technology for making CDs with greater storage capacity and is used for making DVDs as well.

The G.E researchers have made use of these holograms for making this one of kind storage DVD. They have used a different approach for producing these special discs. They have made less complex and small holograms for producing this ultimate storage discs. This method is called a micro-holographic storage. One of the challenges faced by the researchers is the way in which they can make enough reflection of light from the small holograms so that their data can be read and retrieved. The team has found a solution for it in the recent pas t through which the reflective power of the holograms has increased by 200 times and is readable by the Blu-ray machines.

The cost of these CDs is also one of the major point to be though about and GE feels that the product will be introduced by 2011 or 2012 and it should cost nearly 10 cents for one gigabyte. The CDs produced through, micro-holographic storage method will be able to store up to 500 gigabytes.
